Lunar Eclipse in Pisces and the Cosmic Surrealism

The Lunar Eclipse in Pisces is hard to describe because of its surrealist characteristics—it’s subtle, subdue, like a half-remembered dream. The Moon (our emotions, shaping our thoughts) is conjunct Neptune (our ideals and delusions) in Pisces (the dreamscape), while Saturn (the call to reality) opposes Mercury (the voice of reason) in Virgo (the fact-checker). It’s a cosmic balancing act between floating in a world of dreams and grounding ourselves in truth (should there be one truth).

Dreaming Through Reality

Last night, under the Pisces Full Moon that turned into a Lunar Eclipse, I dreamed I took a micro-dose of hallucinogenic mushrooms. My always present fear is losing the sense of self and control over my body and that is why drugs, and I have never been acquainted. However, last night in my dream, I felt the trip as vividly in my body as it was so hard to tell where the dream ended and where my renewed sense of self began. The dreamy me loved this experience. Only a few days ago, during the romantic escape to Paris I took with my husband, I was able to visit the new exhibition on Surrealism at the Centre Pompidou. This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of the Manifeste du Surréalisme in 1924. Surrealists explored the power of the unconscious mind, seeking to merge dreams with reality. Influenced by psychoanalysis, surrealists believed that tapping into the dream world could reveal deeper truths about human experience. Artists like Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and André Breton created works that challenged reason through unexpected juxtapositions of real and illogical scenes. Surrealism was not just an artistic movement but a radical way of rethinking reality, a way to break free from societal norms and explore the fluid boundaries between dreams, desires, and the everyday world. Hundred years later, on slightly different canvases of our everyday digital reality, we are still trying to do the same.

Surrealists paintings embody what this Lunar Eclipse in Pisces feels like—where is the line between what’s real in our dreamscape and what is possible in our waking lives?

Let this be my question for you on this eclipse day: What is real in your dreams and what is possible in your waking life?

The Lunar Eclipse in Pisces is hard to describe because of its surrealist characteristics—it’s subtle, subdue, like a half-remembered dream. The Moon (our emotions, shaping our thoughts) is conjunct Neptune (our ideals and delusions) in Pisces (the dreamscape), while Saturn (the call to reality) opposes Mercury (the voice of reason) in Virgo (the fact-checker). It’s a cosmic balancing act between floating in a world of dreams and grounding ourselves in truth (should there be one truth).

Lunar Eclipse in Pisces: The Energy of the Eclipse

This eclipse amplifies our connection to the ethereal. The Moon, representing all our memories, merges with Neptune, the planet of illusions and spirituality, in the act of creating a heightened sense of imagination, dreaminess, and emotional depth. It’s as if we’re being invited to step through a portal, into the work of Salvador Dalí. On the other side stands strong Mercury in Virgo, opposing our lost lord of time, Saturn in Pisces, to offer us tools for clarity and discernment. The Saturn’s opposition to Mercury and the eclipsed Moon’s close conjunction to Neptune form quite a surrealist contrast.

As we reach closer to our goals and ideas for progress, we might find ourselves suddenly stopped in our tracks by Saturn. Although, our builder Saturn is not strong out in the open Piscean sea, it’s still there to offer us a firm call back to reality. And just when we’re allowing our imagination to flow freely, we get reminded that some roads are not (yet) paved. Saturn in Pisces, opposing Mercury in Virgo, can feel like your back wheels got stuck in the mud. (I experienced this a few falls ago when I parked my Ford Fiesta on the Pumpkin patch field before a heavy rainfall. I had to be pulled out by a tractor, my boots forever ruined. So, if you feel stuck in the mud, don’t wait for the spring but get yourself some friendly hand who can help with the pull.) When Saturn stops us, it’s not to break our momentum but to offer a pause—a chance to reflect and learn lessons that will carry us forward, if we’re willing to pay attention.

Saturn’s opposition to Mercury during this Lunar Eclipse isn’t necessarily about fixing what’s broken right now, but about learning how to get things right the next time around. This may well be the most important lesson of the fall eclipse cycle: not everything that’s broken is meant to be mended. Some things are better left as they are, imperfections and all. Like kintsugi, the art of mending broken pottery with gold, there is beauty in the cracks. Much like surrealism, the beauty lies not in the perfect, but in the unexpected.

Stop-and-Go Energy: Jupiter’s Role

Jupiter, the planet of abundance and expansion, squared by both the Sun and Moon today adds another layer of confusion to the eclipse energy. Jupiter’s influence pushes for rapid forward movement, while Saturn is applying the brakes. This creates a "stop and go" effect—a tension between acceleration and restraint. Over the next two weeks, you might feel as though you’ve got one foot on the gas and one on the brake, making progress feel uneven and choppy.

Surrender to the slowdown. Allow yourself to pause and take in the moment, perhaps even stopping to smell the flowers along the way. Progress will come, but does it need to be forced?

Navigating the Pisces-Virgo Opposition

This is a dance between Pisces’ intuitive, unstructured flow and Virgo’s detailed, pragmatic approach. With this Lunar Eclipse, it’s not about choosing one side over the other, but learning how to work with both. Inhabit a surrealist mind, at least for a day. While there’s always a chorus of voices around us, we must remember to listen to our own inner knowing (our Piscean waters), to the consistent voice of intuition that speaks from our higher self. It’s this voice, and not the noise of the world, that will guide us forward. And, as always, it helps to have faith that the Universe has our backs, no matter how surreal and highly impossible the landscape may feel.

Your Horoscopes or Dreaming maps for Each Sign

Here’s a surreal guide for each zodiac sign under this ecliptic energy. Read for both your Sun sign and your Rising.

Aries: Your bold actions may lead to a breakthrough, but slow down to ask: Is this what your soul really desires, or just another horde’s distraction?

Taurus: You’re craving peace, but your dreams may pull you into emotional whirlpools. Let yourself drift, but anchor in your values.

Gemini: Words may come to you in fragments or waves of inspiration—let them land and accumulate. Be of what you say; some words may be more potent than you realize.

Cancer: Your heart desires escape, but the world demands your responsibility. Is there a way to introduce softness to your daily treadmill?

Leo: A giant creative idea has been swirling in your mind for a while—now’s the time to make it real. Lean into your imagination and see where it takes you.

Virgo: You’re feeling pulled in two directions—your need to stay grounded vs. the call to dream. Let go of needing everything to make sense, just for a moment.

Libra: Relationship(s) take center stage (again), but nothing is clear. Is there a desire or illusion you need to let go of to build or repair a deeper trust?

Scorpio: Your inner world is transforming, and this eclipse may open new pathways of healing. Embrace what surfaces, even if it feels uncomfortable.

Sagittarius: Your vision for the future is expanding and at the same time your desires are shifting. Pause before you leap forward to clarify your intentions.

Capricorn: Your ambitions are in flux—what once seemed clear may now feel foggy. Trust that the path will reveal itself if you loosen your grip on control.

Aquarius: This eclipse shakes up your whole belief systems—what’s real, and what’s an illusion? Does it matter? Allow yourself to explore the possibilities without needing concrete answers. Embrace the riddles.

Pisces: This is your moment to shine in your own dreamscape, but don’t lose yourself entirely. Balance dreaming with some practical steps towards your desires —for start, try to get out into the world more often.

Advice: Embrace the Dream-Real Dichotomy

As we move through this eclipse tunnel, consider that not everything needs to be understood in black and white. The surreal and the real can coexist. Sometimes, the dreams we believe are too impossible hold the greatest truths. The Pisces Eclipse invites you to explore this space, where what’s imagined can merge with what’s real like in a painting.
