The Venus Retrograde under the Aquarius Full Moon

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

If you worked with me before, you have certainly heard me refer to astrology as a navigation system for your life's journey. Nature's GPS. It is important to note that astrology isn't a tool for making any specific predictions. I understand that you've been keeping up with the media buzz around the Venus retrograde and its potential implications on our lives. Unfortunately, I cannot answer the questions I’ve received in the past two weeks "What will Venus retrograde, or the Full Aquarius Moon bring to me this summer" because the celestial bodies don't throw things at us or make us do anything we don't want to do.

If you're going to learn something from the Aquarius Full Moon during the Venus stationing retrograde, it is whether you understand and use the power of your free will.

Full Moon in Aquarius by Nebojša Dolaš

In the body, willpower resides within the third chakra center, ruled by the Sun and the element of fire. On the other hand, the Full Aquarius Moon represents the highest expression of the air element, connecting us to the collective consciousness and showing us how our willful desires intertwine with the lives of others. Our choices not only influence the trajectory of our lives but also impact everyone we have relationships with, including our partners, kids, family members, friends, coworkers, clients, and students.

If you've practiced yoga with me, you know that we never focus solely on Manipura (the third chakra center) and willpower without also embracing Anahata (the fourth chakra center) and the source of compassion.

During the Venus retrograde and with the Sun in Leo coinciding with the Full Aquarius Moon, a spotlight is cast on the delicate balance between willpower and desires on one hand and compassion and communion on the other. We find ourselves questioning how much we can seek and take for ourselves while still being considerate of the well-being and happiness of others. It urges us to explore boundaries within our relationships, discovering how much space we can claim while leaving enough room for the other person.

How to work with the Full Moon in Aquarius?

It's important to note that the planets don't directly cause changes in our lives. However, their movements and alignments emit energies that undeniably affect us. These energies resonate within different centers in our bodies, depending on a specific planetary alignment. With the Full Moon in Aquarius, both Manipura and Anahata centers (the willpower and heart centers) are activated. These openings incite us to:

  1. Pause, tune in, and hear our heart's desires.

  2. Take note of what feels right for us and what no longer brings us joy.

  3. Observe how much space we are offering in our relationships with others.

  4. Recognize any disbalances within our relationships.

  5. Acknowledge if we have been taking more than giving.

  6. With love and compassion, make necessary decisions that will ignite transformation.

  7. Then, take action that aligns with our authentic selves.

Remember that each decision you make today shapes the path of your journey. Each decision you make today impacts others you relate to.

But what is it about this Leo Venus retrograde that feels so urgent and unsettling for us?

Associated with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Roman goddess Venus, the planet Venus symbolizes femininity and the divine feminine. In modern astrology, we read Venus as the signifier of love, relationships, harmony, values, and our deepest desires.

Interestingly, if we were to track the movement of Venus over eight years, it would create a beautiful five-pointed star pattern. This celestial configuration occurs because Venus follows a cyclical, symmetrical path in her journey. During Venus's retrograde periods, the planet appears to move backward in its orbit from our vantage point on Earth. This happens approximately every 18 months and lasts about 40 to 43 days. Venus retrogrades at the same point in the sky every eight years, correlating with specific points in our astrological charts. I encourage you to reflect on your experiences during the summer of 2015 when Venus last retrograded through this exact spot in your chart. Those memories might provide valuable insights into the questions of the present.

During Venus retrogrades, we become more attuned to breaking free from relationships that bind us. You may have already heard me saying that this summer is an exellent time for parting ways with anyone or anything that no longer warms our hearts.

With Venus retrograding in the zodiac sign of Leo, matters of the heart take the main stage. This transit calls for us to delve into our heart chakra and reassess our desires and aspirations. Any changes that are unfolding until the end of September will reflect our relationship with our hearts. This two-month period holds the potential for transformative shifts in how we relate to ourselves, consequently, influencing our relationships with others.

Venus now invites us on a journey inward, inspiring us to become more introspective and reflective. By accepting this invitation, we open ourselves to experiencing profound changes in our love lives, financial situations, and desires. It is essential to recognize that these changes are not the doing of Venus alone but rather a result of finally attuning ourselves to our true desires.

Remember, astrology is a tool for self-discovery and awareness. Embrace this Venus retrograde as an opportunity for growth and understanding, and let your journey unfold with curiosity and grace.
